German Patent Attorney, European Patent and European Trademark Attorney
born in 1961 is a German and European patent attorney and also representative before the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). He studied physics and computer science at the Universities of Hamburg (Germany) and Toulouse (France) up to the diploma in 1985. He was an assistant at the University of Federal Armed Forces (Hamburg) in the field of control engineering and he obtained his doctorate in the field of control engineering at a Strasbourg University. After training at a patent law firm, the German Patent Office, the Federal Patent Court and the Superior Court of Munich he qualified as a German Patent Attorney in 1990, as a European Patent Attorney in 1991 and worked with Munich-based patent law firms.
He prosecuted, defended and enforced German and European Patents in the fields of telecommunications, electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering, medical appliances, process technology, automotive components, processors and chip technology. Dr Kurig has extensive experience in the litigation of German and European patents before the German Courts of Düsseldorf, Mannheim and Hamburg. He represented various multinational enterprises in cross-border litigation covering the fields of MP3, DVD, CD-R, microprocessors and CAD/CAM devices before the Federal Supreme Court and Federal Patent Court, in ordinary court actions and preliminary injunctions. Dr Kurig has written a number of articles in patent journals, is giving lectures on IP topics before foreign lawyers associations and is a member of the Institute of Patent Attorneys admitted at the European Patent Office (epi), the Examination Board of German Patent Attorneys, FICPI and LES. In addition Dr Kurig is member of the Examining Commission for German Patent Attorneys. He is fluent in English, German, French and Italian.
